San Miguel School Charity Golf

I played in the San Miguel School Charity Golf Tournament last Monday. The San Miguel School is a private school for troubled Camden Boys. This is my second year playing. I still have no clue what I’m doing. Can you tell?

No Easy Road

I feel like today’s post would be the same as the last. I’m still tired. Maybe even more so… So what else is new?

I IMed my bud Cam at work today saying that I think I’ll quit teaching piano soon since I really need to free up some time.

He replied:

M, C, E says:
keep on pushing

M, C,E says:
when I was in school i used to sing that song

M, C, E says:
I don’t feel no ways tired

M, C, E says:
come to far from where i started from

M, C, E says:
nobody told me the road would be easy

M, C, E says:
I don’t believe he bought me this far to leave me

S, G says:
definitely some good lyrics in that song... thanks

M, C, E says:
no prob

Hmmmm… still might stop teaching. Though the words were helpful.

Christmas Comes

I know you’re all wondering about the gift giving/receiving outcome from this past holiday season. I must say, I am so so pleased! Gifts were given of course, but the spirit was beautiful. Not as stressful as I’d first anticipated. I hardly hit the mall, forced myself to look for sales, and for the first time really feel good about the money spent for my family and friends.

One of the best gifts was largely a gift of time… My dad and I redecorated the upstairs bathroom for my mom… We couldn’t start painting until around 11pm on Christmas Eve since we waited for her to go to sleep. Definitely worth it to see her excitement.

The handmade challenge went well. Sungee and Melody ended up with handmade gifts, and I received one from Lyd… the only person who turned the challenge around on me and MADE me something! A wonderful wooden jewelry box that I most desperately needed… thanks lady!

Sungee’s gift was this:

Sungee's Arm Cuff

Sungee's Arm Cuff

It’s true that for the most part I try to stay away from Leathers and Furs, but exceptions can be made... especially for a beautiful leather hand crafted initial cuff from this incredible artist from LA. Please check out her stuff… truly gifted and what an amazing spirit! Working with Sunny was a treat and the end result was amazing… It’s a little large so we’re sending it back to be sized but all in all I’m very pleased.

Can’t share Mel’s gift yet cuz I forgot to take it to her this past weekend when I visited. I’ll show pics later.

Cookies? Yes Please!

M’s Holiday Cookie Exchange was last night. Who knew I’d have such a good time. AND who knew I could make Oatmeal cookies? Go figure. Actually, M helped me cheat by directing me here for some easy recipes. The punch was exceptionally good so I wanted to share the recipe with you… hope she doesn’t mind! :)

Pomegranate and Champagne Punch

Ingredients
2 cups champagne
1 cup pomegranate juice
1 cup seltzer
1/2 cup citrus vodka
Lemon twists for garnish

Preparation
Combine champagne, pomegranate juice, seltzer and vodka in a large bowl or pitcher. Serve over ice with a twist of lemon.

Mmmmm so so good!

In Other news, Sungee went to pick up the desk for Mellow… we have a front desk now people!! Unbelievable how far this thing has come… as always promised, pictures to come soon.

And, since he's one of the only people that I know reads this blog on a regular basis,

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAM!!!

(This is where I'd link to your blog if you had one.)

Brooklyn Weekend Fun

There’s something about New York when the weather is a little bit Spring-like and Sunny… not to cold, definitely not yet hot… just kinda balmy during the day and chilly at night. That’s pretty much what the weather was like in Brooklyn this weekend. Gorgeous for aimless unplanned wandering… which is of course what we do best.

On Friday, we went to a fabulous little SoHo sushi place (Blue Ribbon) that Melody found with some coworkers a while back. Place was so chic they didn’t even need a friggin sign outside! That was a little strange… I wonder what it would be like to own something so swanky you don’t even need a sign. Like folks just come to your spot because they know through word of mouth it’s the hotness.

Anyway, had some miso soup and edamame of course. Also an awesome California roll out of king crab… though $18? Still very very tasty… a scallop roll of some kind, oh and the green tea crème brûlée?!?! Didn’t even know I LIKED crème brûlée! But it was so wonderful almost made me pass out… to Melody’s amusement. Whatever it was good.

After dinner we walked around SoHo a bit … shopped a little, and then went to a great wine bar on Broome and Wooster Sts. We almost couldn’t find it but I’m so glad we did cuz we had a lot of fun talking stuff there.

Sunday was spent wandering around Brooklyn. Breakfast at a bagel shop, shopping on Bedford Street where I picked up this great spring hat

and Stereolab compilation: Stereolab Oscillons from the Anti-Sun.

Also stopped through Union Square on the way back to Penn station. Picked up a couple pair of everyone-has-them-but-I-love-them-anyway street vendor earrings, some shoes, and a Melody-recommended artist’s album: Amy Winehouse, Back to Black. Shes European… from the UK… kinda 60s soulish… pretty refreshing to hear someone steal a different era of soul… I like.

Got a little reading and knitting done on the train which i'm quite proud of. All part of the effort to use my time a little more wisely.

All in all a really wonderful and refreshing weekend. New York is generally busy but Brooklyn somehow feels a little slower paced and relaxing.

P.S. got an A- In that godforsaken Economics class... aparently the professor just wanted to see us shake. VERY MEAN.

From my city to yours

I am excited to visit Melody this weekend. Brooklyn is always a great escape… I’m definitely into the whole NY vibe… not certain I’m ready to live there yet… but it’s nice to have friends there to visit with.

We have really important plans to do the following.
· Eat tons’O Sushi at the great spot Melody found
· Visit bookstores and other random shops
· Have lots of coffee and tea, and
· Talk tirelessly… mostly about the “Takeover” and boys.

Hopefully I’ll get some knitting and reading in too since I’ll be driving up to Hamilton to take the train into the city.

I’ll have pictures to share… unless I get to excited and forget to take them. It happens.
